What is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a combat sport in which contestants are permitted to use the fighting techniques of multiple martial arts such as: Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, Judo, etc. This is the sport being showcased on UFC.

MMA Level 1 takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is our beginner MMA class. Start here to learn the basic fundamentals you’ll need to survive a night in our Level 2 class!

MMA Level 2 is for experienced fighters looking to take a fight, or are already in fight camp. Known more as a sparring day, the speed and intensity is turned up for more realistic training. Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays.

Grappling

Grappling in MMA is different than grappling in wrestling or BJJ. The rule sets are different so a fighter must always be aware of different possibilites from different martial arts.

Cage Work

The only sport in the world where you can fight against a cage wall. This changes the game entirely. Cage work is almost it’s own sport entirely! From takedowns, to striking, knees or eblows, the cage always comes in to play!

The 11:00 AM Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class is great. Fantastic instruction and a great group of guys to roll with. Everybody tries to help one another and watches out for each others safety. I am 56 years old and able to train hard without getting hurt with these guys.

I came to Independent 3 years ago needing to make a change. I was 167 lbs and not happy. I started off in the cardio classes and lost 20 plus lbs. in my first couple months.
